Jean Carol Pocock

Jean Carol (Swiers) Pocock, 72, passed away peacefully on May 15, 2026.

Born April 19, 1954, in Oberlin, Ohio, Jean was the daughter of Sophia (Tarnowski) Swiers and Wesley Swiers. She graduated from Firelands High School in 1972 and went on to build a life centered around family, friendship, hard work, and never being afraid to say exactly what was on her mind.

Jean married her childhood friend and lifelong sweetheart, Gary Pocock Sr. Together they raised two sons, Gary Pocock Jr. of Jackson, Ohio, and Justin Pocock of Wellington, Ohio. She also absolutely adored her granddaughter, Bayleigh Pocock. Aka Mert.

For many years, Jean worked at VFW Post 6941 in Wellington, where she was also a proud lifetime auxiliary member. Jean was known for her quick wit, sharp sense of humor, and uncanny ability to tell it like it was. She could make people laugh, set them straight, and keep everyone on their toes—sometimes all in the same conversation. Her one-liners, honest opinions, and perfectly timed comebacks will be remembered fondly by all who knew and loved her.

She loved spending time with her family, camping, cooking meals that brought everyone together, tending to her garden, and trying her luck with scratch-off lottery tickets. Whether around a campfire, in the kitchen, or gathered with family and friends, Jean made sure there was never a dull moment.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Wesley and Sophia Swiers; her sister, Joanne Toukoumidis; and her brother, Jack Swiers. She is survived by her brothers, Jay Swiers and John Swiers, and her sister, Judy Fortney.

In keeping with Jean’s wishes, there will be no formal service. A celebration of life will be held by the family at a later date.
