Joan Sophronia Hawley, 81, of Wellington, died Wednesday, December 16, 2009 at Mount Carmel St. Ann's Hospital in Westerville. Born on July 20, 1928 in Brighton to the late Harold and Minnie Belle (nee Tuttle) Hardy, Joan was a lifelong Wellington area resident. She graduated with the Wellington High School class of 1946.
Joan worked as an inspector for Rockwell in Wellington. More than anything, she loved her grandchildren and going to their activities. She was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Wellington where she was part of the Friendship Guild. Joan greatly enjoyed her nine years spent at St. Patrick's Manor.
Survivors include her Son and Daughter-in-law, Dan and Melanie Hawley; Daughter and Son-in-law, Marcia and Mark Shirk; Daughter and Son-in-law, Jill and Marty Lance; 11 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Joan is also survived by her Sister and Brother-in-law, Jean and Aubrey Rickel; Sister-in-law, Elouise Hardy; several nieces and nephews and many close friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Mantz and five brothers, Charles, Lawrence, Theodore, Walter and Robert Hardy.
Friends and family will be received Saturday, December 19 from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. Memorial Service at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, 140 S. Main St., Wellington with Rev. Brian Burke officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Joan can be sent to the church.
