Joanne Lois Hamer, of Wellington, died on Monday, November 17, 2025 at the Elms just two days shy of her 95th birthday. Joanne was born on November 19, 1930 in Toledo to Georgia (Broughton) and William Schneider. She was a 1948 graduate of Berlin Heights High School and moved to Wellington in 1961.
A retail worker, Joanne worked for Roedel Shoe Store, Rainbow Cards and Gifts, and Walker's Market. She was a faithful member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Wellington. Joanne was also a 4-H advisor and active with the Town and Country. She volunteered her time dispatching for the Wellington Senior bus. Joanne enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and working on puzzles. She also liked taking camping trips with friends and family. Joanne's greatest joy was spending time with her family
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Sue Hamer; grandson, Bryan (Kim) Hamer and great-grandsons, Braden (Ellie Leiby) and Caleb, all of Wellington. Joanne was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 67 years, Blake Hamer, in 2016; daughter Patti Hamerin 1999; and siblings Robert and William Schneider and Georgia Mae Schiver.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 22 at 1 p.m. at the First Congregational UCC, 140 South Main St, Wellington. A private burial will take place at Peaks Cemetery in Berlin Township at a later date. Donations in Joanne's memory may be directed to Wellspring Hospice, 3905 Oberlin Rd, Lorain, or the Wellington Firefighters Association, 202 Kelly St, Wellington.
