IN LOVING MEMORY OF
John W.
Anthony
January 2, 1940 – August 10, 2020
A life well lived. John W. Anthony ("Pop Pop") passed away at the age of 80 on Monday, August 10, 2020. He was lovingly surrounded by family at Mercy New Life Hospice of Lorain, Ohio.
John was born one of four siblings on January 2, 1940 in the coal mining town, Continental Number 2, in Pennsylvania to the late Mary (Kraynak) and Steve Anthony.
John married his sweetheart "Toots" in 1960 and moved to Cleveland where they built a full life. John began his career in concrete construction and over the years his "tough as nails" entrepreneurial spirit led him to eventually become a builder, specializing in custom homes for high profile clients. He was gifted with an eye for detail and problem solving which influenced his unique approach and understanding of spiral staircases, design, and custom trim. His attention to detail and craftsmanship was unparalleled in the industry. He was an involved member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church where he volunteered to work on the Church and Fr. Duffy center, later becoming an altar server. John had a creative spirit with many interests and hobbies including little league coach, collector of butterflies, arrowheads and old Westerns, wine maker and painter to name a few. John loved food, pierogies, a hot dog and a beer, corn on the cob, fillet, spaghetti, tomato sandwiches, but most of all soup!
John was a devoted Pittsburgh Steelers fan who also loved: listening to music, his dog Yettee, antiquing and watching Family Feud & Jeopardy.
John loved spending winters in Florida with family and belting out a Jimmy Buffet tune while enjoying crab legs and margaritas.
John's greatest legacy is his large family, his dream to have a big family was fulfilled.
John is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years: Ann (Danko) Anthony and his 5 children, 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren: daughter: Michelle (Greg) Anderson of Monroeville, and their 3 children: Kyle (Samantha) Anderson, Desera Anderson and her children: Jayden, Kameron, and Ethan and Devin Anderson; son: Michael Anthony of Wakeman; daughter: Mona (John) Foy of Cocoa Beach, Fl and their 2 children: Lindsay (Brandon) Duensing and Corey (Jantzen) Foy and their 3 children: Harper, Olive and Birdie; son: Mark (Colleen) Anthony of Melbourne, Fl and their 4 children: Jordan (Brad) Wurster and their 2 children: Landon and Lincoln, Dustin (Lydia Shaw) Anthony and their children: Christian, Chase, Calista and Blake, Mark (Cassidy) Anthony and Anna Anthony; and son: Matthew (Heather) Anthony and their 2 children: Nathan and Brandon Anthony. 2 sisters: Betty Rusko, Mary Sanflippo and brother: Robert Anthony, of Uniontown, Pennsylvania.
