Obituary

John Edward 'Jake' Bernard, age 95, of Ripley Twp., died Sunday, March 28, 2010 at his home after a short illness. He was born March 9, 1915 in Cloverport, Kentucky, son of the late Marion and Anna (Thompson) Bernard. He moved to Ripley Twp. in 1946 where he lived for several years, then he lived in Huron for several years before moving back to Ripley Twp. in 1999. John served in the U.S. Army as a Staff Sgt. during World War II in the South Pacific. He worked briefly for AC&Y Railroad and retired from Voisards, Shiloh, Ohio in 1977. John was a life member of the Norwalk V.F.W. Post 2743. He loved to fish. He is survived by his children, Marie (Donald) Plank of Adario, John (Jean) Bernard, Judith (William) Suddith, Linda (Franklin) Ousley, Marlene 'Buck' Bernard and Ronald Lewis all of Willard; 13 grandchildren and many great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eileen Bernard in 2000, his daughter, Tonya Ruth Bernard, 2 sisters and 5 brothers. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 1, 2010 at the Eastman Funeral Home, 49 West Main St., Greenwich with Pastor Janet Chilcote officiating. Burial with military rites will follow at Greenwich Greenlawn Cemetery.
