"John A. Brown... born August 8, 1945... .is now dead." Is how he wanted his obituary to read. His children would like to add a little more...
John A. Brown, 73, passed away peacefully on October 18, 2018 after spending a few weeks in the hospital aggravating and flirting with some lovely nurses.
A lifelong resident of Wellington, he was a fixture in the morning coffee scene at McDonald's, where he loved the company of the other story tellers and liars.
John met the love of his life at the Lorain County Fair and they later married in 1966. They would go on to celebrate a wonderful life together, in the home he and his father built on Hawley Road. He was a provider, little league coach, Boy Scout leader and everything a husband and father should be.
Even after losing several fingers from a farm accident as a teen, he went on to be a mechanic at the old Whitney Shell in town and later would go on to own and operate Wellington Lawn and Garden with his partner Dale Lamont; never letting his handicap limit him.
During his retirement, he would work with his brother, Fred, as a finish carpenter, as he was a skilled woodworker. A lover of bluegrass music, he often hosted his "Saturday Night Pickers" for jam sessions. He was a self-taught bass and mandolin player, and custom built many mountain dulcimers for friends and family. No one he ever played with however, gave him more joy than his talented granddaughter Kasey, whose singing and playing brought a smile to his face until the day he passed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Eva Brown; his beloved wife, Carol and his brother Fred. Surviving him and always remembering his sense of humor and love are his children; Bill and Kim, John and Missy of Wellington and Jennifer and Chris of Norris, Tennessee. His memory will be continued in the eyes of his grandchildren, Lauren, BJ, Jarrod, Kasey, Molly and his great- grandson Cole. In addition to his children and grandchildren, he is survived by his sister Ruth Mulligan and brother Tom Brown, both of Wellington as well as many nieces and nephews.
As were his wishes, there will be no formal service; but a celebration of his life will be held on November 2, at the Wellington Eagles, starting at 6 pm. Anyone with stories of our dad, please feel free to provide your memories and in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Herrick Memorial Library, children's section. If you are unable to attend, that's okay, he won't be at your service either.
