John E. Cowhick, 76, of Nova, died Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus. He was born on June 7, 1937, in Lodi, son of the late Roy and Bernice (Clark) Cowhick. John was a resident of Sullivan for most of his life.
He attended Sullivan High School and served in the United States Army. John farmed and owned Custom Automotive in Sullivan and Nova where he was a rebuilder. He also worked on many large construction jobs throughout Ohio.
John was a member of the Ruggles Church, Sullivan American Legion, Auto Rebuilders Association, International Union of Operating Engineers Local 18 and the Sullivan VFW.
He enjoyed his work and spending time with friends.
Survived by his wife of 12 years, Belva (Bishop); stepchildren, Fred Bragg, Richard Bragg, Fay Bragg, Iris Bragg, Roger Eagle and Ron Eagle and siblings, Henry (Joyce) Cowhick of Sullivan, Mary (Jack) Gibson of Georgia and Tom (Helen) Cowhick of Elyria. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by brothers, Bill, Bob and Charles and sister-in-law, Shirley.
John's family will greet friends from 5-8 p.m. Sunday, November 3, 2013 at Eastman Funeral Home, 200 West Main Street, New London where a service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Martin Daly officiating. Burial will follow in Sullivan Southview Cemetery. If desired, memorials may be given to Hospice of North Central Ohio, 1050 Dauch Drive, Ashland, Ohio 44805.
