Obituary

John A. Devereaux, 88, of Penfield, died Friday, July 30, 2021 at his home surrounded by his loving and caring family. He was born August 10, 1932, in Penfield, to the late Dorothy (nee Conklin) and David C. Devereaux.

John met the love of his life, Joy Wall, at Penfield High School and they graduated together in the class of 1950. John and Joy lived in Penfield the rest of their lives where they raised their family. He worked at Nabakowski Company in Amherst, Sibley Inc. of Elyria and Northern Ohio Roofing in Elyria where he did sheet metal work and was a lifetime member of the Sheet Metal Union of America in Vermilion.  John enjoyed playing fast pitch softball and basketball and was a true outdoorsman with his passion being hunting, fishing, and playing golf with family and friends.

John is survived by his 4 children, Gail Vance of Wellington, Lynn Devereaux of Elyria, John (Sherry) Devereaux II of Wellington and James Devereaux of Oberlin; 9 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren and 1 great great granddaughter; 4 siblings, Ralph Devereaux of Grafton, Anne Funk of South Carolina, Earl (Ruth) Devereaux of Wellington and Paul Devereaux of Florida.  He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Joy (nee Wall) Devereaux.

A celebration of life will be held for both Joy and John at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mercy New Life Hospice, 3500 Kolbe Road, Lorain, Ohio 44053.  The staff of Norton- Eastman Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements and online condolences may be expressed at www.norton-eastmanfuneralhome.com.
