John E. Fessenden, 79, of Norwalk, Ohio, died on August 8, 2023, at MetroHealth Hospital in Cleveland, the result of an automobile accident. He was born on November 22, 1943, in Norwalk, Ohio, to the late Raymond and Mary Jane (Kovach) Fessenden.
John was someone who was loved by everyone. He enjoyed spending time at the Norwalk Reservoir, flea markets, and going out to eat at Dianna's Deli, Bob Evans, and Uncle Dudley's Restaurant. He loved going out for coffee with his buddy Ralph Leber.
A talented auto mechanic, John had worked at the former Dixon Ticonderoga plant as well as New Horizons Bakery. At one time he also owned and operated the former, Fessenden's Bicycle Shop.
Survivors include his children, Brenda Bond (Scott Wilkes), Bruce (Amy) Fessenden, Keith (Sherry) Fessenden, Jerry Fessenden, Paul Fessenden, and Cheryl (Frank) Stieber; stepchildren, Tammy Blevins, Tracy (Jay) Dunham, and Sonya Guyton; grandchildren, Kayla Rothgeb (Josh Hale), Ashley (Travis) Fincham, Molly Fessenden (Matt Giles), Athena Fessenden, Kloe, and Kali Guyton; and great grandchildren, Gunnar, Destinie, Serenity, Trinity, Isabella, and Tyler; as well as numerous step grandchildren, and step great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joylyn Fessenden; grandchildren, Matt Stieber, and Jessica Wright; siblings, Cathy Springer, and Carol Abel; son in-law, Scott Bond; and great grandchildren, Tiffany Fessenden and Gavin Wright.
A memorial visitation will be held on Friday, August 11, 2023, at Norwalk Baptist Church, 2084 US-20 West, Norwalk, Ohio, 44875 from 6 – 8 p.m. and again on Saturday from 3 – 4 p.m., with a memorial service to follow at 4 p.m. at the church. Pastor Rich Forman will conduct the services. Memorial contributions may be directed to the church, and specifically to the church food pantry program.
