John P. Fox, 78, of Supply, NC and formerly of Greenwich, OH, passed away on Tuesday, February 24, 2015 after a short illness in Bolivia, NC. Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 pm on Monday, March 2, 2015 at Eastman Funeral Home, Greenwich, OH and a service will be held at 11 am on Tuesday at the Ripley Church, 4130 S. Edwards Road, Greenwich, OH conducted by Pastor Eric Robinson. Burial will follow at Edwards Grove Cemetery, Greenwich, OH.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Belinda (Hopkins) of Supply, NC; son, Matthew J. Fox of Supply, NC; and his cherished grandchildren, Danna, Christopher, Sage and Lilian Fox and great grandson, Nolan Fox. John is also survived by his siblings, Joe Fox of Greenwich, OH, Mary Hatton of Naples, FL, Barbara Zulauf of Palm Coast, FL, Helen Nagel of Vero Beach, FL, and Ted Fox of Greenwich, OH. John had many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews who he loved to brag about.
John was born on February 5, 1937 in Crawford County, OH, to the late Proctor and Katie Fox and was preceded in death by his brothers, Kenneth and Richard Fox.
He played many sports, however golfing was his favorite. John hunted deer with bow and arrow and liked to coon hunt with his son Matt along with their various registered coon hounds. Together they entered competition hunts. He was a true history buff, especially knowledgeable of WWI and WWII. Gold prospecting and panning for gold were one of his interests. He enjoyed raising plants, gardening and traveling to the southwest, especially Las Vegas. Being an outdoors enthusiast, John loved walking and being around water be it Lake Erie, the ocean, reservoirs, or rivers. Camping was among his best memories of family outings.
John graduated from Plymouth High School and worked at Shelby Spring Hinge and RR Donnelley in Willard as a shipping and receiving foreman. He also owned and operated Foxwood Nursery. He took great pride and pleasure in knowing that he was helping contribute to the beauty of the area. Whenever the family took rides, he would point to plants that he had been instrumental in providing. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.
