John T. Hartman, 85, of Sandusky and formerly of Avon Lake and Sullivan, died Saturday, September 3, 2011 at the Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky. He was born on January 12, 1926 in Kent to the late Theodore and Lucile (nee Good) Hartman.
John Proudly served in the United States Navy From 1943-1946 and was a guard for the Tokyo Rose. Following his time of duty in the Navy he enlisted in the United States Army and served in Korea. John was recently given the honor to place the wreath upon the new Korean Memorial in Washington D.C. After his time of service John retired as a Superintendent from Turner Construction Company in 1987 as a carpenter. He was a member of the Carpenters Union. John was also a proud member of the 187th Airborne Rakkasans as well as a life member of the American Legion Post 8, Huntington Am Vets and Wellington VFW Post 6941. John loved fishing and he loved spending time with his grandchildren, these were among the greatest loves of his life. He also liked to make, and eat, fried bread.
John is survived by his children, Linda Jordan of Urbana, Anna and her husband Chuck Estep of Norwalk and Walker 'Butch' and his wife Cecilia Hartman of Sullivan. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 45 great grandchildren and 31 great great grandchildren. John was preceded in death by his son John Michael Hartman and brothers Clair, Jack and Hammer.
Friends will be received on Wednesday, September 7, from 12 to 2 p.m. at Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, 370 South Main St. Wellington with services beginning at 2 p.m. Burial will follow at Sullivan Southview Cemetery.
