John J. Hoff, 70, of Amherst, and formerly of Wellington, died Saturday, June 14, 2014 at Mercy New Life Hospice in Lorain after a beautiful day spent with his family and friends. He was born on July 22, 1943 in Cleveland to the late Joseph and Margarette (nee Close) Hoff. John was a 1961 graduate of Olmsted Falls High School, and later earned an Associate's Degree. Following High School John joined the United States Navy and served for 9 years. While in the military John lived all over the world, including Puerto Rico and Morocco. John later settled in North Olmsted and went to work for Ford in Brookpark, retiring in 2000 as a supervisor of quality control. During his 30 years with Ford he spent 3 years in Chihuahua Mexico to open a plant there. In 2002 John relocated to Wellington and most recently to Amherst. John was an active member of his community serving as secretary for the Wellington Kiwanis club, helping to found and volunteer with the Aktion Club, he drove the Wellington Senior Bus, and was a life time member of the American Legion. John loved to read and work on crossword puzzles. He was an avid baseball fan and also liked to travel, to sail, and ski. John enjoyed time spent with friends and family. John is survived by his loving wife of 15 years Sandra (nee Demyan) Hoff, daughters Kelley (Dale) Robins of Vancouver Washington, and Shannon (Timothy) Hoff-Smith of North Olmsted, Step-children Peter Seymore of Elyria, and Amy Seymore of Amherst, and grandchildren McKenzie and Devon Smith. John was preceded in death by siblings Kathlene and James Hoff and his two grandchildren Tinay and Tyler Robins. Friends and family will be received on Wednesday, June 18, from 2-4 p.m. and from 6-8 p.m. at Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, 370 South Main St., Wellington and on Thursday from 11:30 a.m. until the time of a 12:30 Mass of Christian Burial at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 512 North Main St., Wellington with Fr. James Reymann officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Wellington.
