John R. "Jack" Sweeting, 87, of North Fairfield, died Monday, November 27, 2023. Born on July 10, 1936, in Willard, he was the son of the late Thor and Mary (Simmons) Sweeting. Jack was a graduate of North Fairfield High School. He served as a Fairfield Township Trustee and on the South Central School Board when they first built the school.

Jack worked on his farm for his whole life and enjoyed watching his boys tend to their farms. Jack loved to travel to Florida, especially with his wife Carol, during the winter months. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, and playing cards. Most of all, he cherished time spent with his grandchildren and watching them grow up.

Survivors include his wife, Carol (Smith) Sweeting, his children Dean (Jane) Sweeting, Deanna (Bruce) Keener, and Don (Sandy) Sweeting; seven grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; and three sisters, Margaret Dunbar, Jane (Gary) Antill, and Kathy Shepherd. Jack was preceded in death by his parents Thor and Mary Sweeting.

Family and friends will be received on Thursday, November 30, from 12-2 p.m. at Walker-Eastman-Heydinger Funeral Home, 98 West Main St, Norwalk. Funeral will begin immediately following the visitation at 2 p.m. Burial will follow at Fairfield Township Cemetery.  Donations in Jack's memory may be directed to Lowell D.
