John M. Porter, 76, of Fitchville, died Tuesday, December 21, 2021.  Born September 11, 1945, in New London to the late June (Ault) and Johnson Porter, John was a graduate of New London High School, Class of 1964, and a veteran of the U.S. Navy.  He built and remodeled many homes in the area, owned and operated the Fitchville Market for over 25 years and loved farming his own farm.  John was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Fitchville Conservation League, and the Eagles in New London.  He enjoyed his cabin in the woods, hunting, farming, sharing sweet corn from his patch and he smoked some mean chicken.

John is survived by his wife of 54 years and high school sweetheart, Susan (Riedy), whom he married June 10, 1967; 2 daughters, Sheri (Ernie) Johnson of Huron and Christy (Tim Foster) Hardy of Fitchville; son-in-law, Mark (Danette Rankine) Hardy of Fitchville; grandson, Matt (Veronica) Hardy of New London and brother, David (Chris) Porter of Fitchville.  He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Carol Anne Schaffer.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 26, 2021 from 2-6 P.M.  at Eastman Funeral Home, 200 W. Main Street, New London. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, December 27, 2021 at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 18 Park Ave, New London.
