Joseph Edward Chappell

Joseph Edward Chappell passed away on September 25, 2026 at the age of 72, surrounded by his loving family. Joe was born December 10, 1953 in Elyria, Ohio to Helen (née Herman) and Charles Chappell. He graduated from Firelands High School Class of 1972 and entered the Marine Corps, proudly serving his country.

He owned and operated Jo Dirt, an excavating company for many years, and he gave everything to his business. Joe was an avid collector of various things; he loved flea markets and garage sales. He was known to always keep himself busy and was a talented handyman who could fix anything. Joe was the type of man you could call in the middle of the night without worry or hesitation. He would always offer advice or help without wanting anything in return.

Joe is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Rebecca (née Westmoland) Chappell; children, Georgiann (Chad) Watson and Joseph Wesley Chappell, both of Wellington; grandchildren, Tori Watson (Justin Stanley), Dylan (Daytona) Watson, McKenna Chappell, Benjamin Watson, Addyson Watson (Tim) Plowman, and Karter Chappell; great grandchildren, Brayden, Grayson and Baby Boy Watson due Jan 2027, Kamber Stanley. He is also survived by his sister, Nancy (Frank) Hamza, brother, Bill (Lisa) Chappell and Brother in law Gerald Westmoland. In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his sister, Jane Morris.

Friends and family will be received on Thursday, October 1 from 4-7 p.m. at Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, 370 South Main St., Wellington. A graveside service will be held on Friday at 1 p.m. at Greenwood Cemetery Wellington with military honors.
