Joseph E. Sexton of New London passed away on January 20, 2018 at his home. Born June 20, 1948 In Dayton, Joe was the first born to the late Joseph E. Sr. and Edith (nee Mitchell) Sexton. He graduated in 1967 from Miamisburg High School, Miami University, Bowling Green State, and started his doctorate from the University of Toledo. He taught science labs at Miami University for 2 years and at New London Schools for 35 years- of those he held positions of Guidance Counselor and Principal at Fitchville and New London. Joe worked at Frigidaire to put himself through college. In pursuit of his masters in Ed and seeking his degree in science comprehensive and math he discovered a new fly species (1971) in S. Carolina Joseph married Joan Dalton, 1973 at St Mary's Catholic Church, Oxford. The couple moved to New London the same year, pursuing teaching jobs. Joe remained at New London Schools until his 2008 retirement. He held various positions there- teacher of science and college prep, counselor, Principal, president of the local teacher's association, Director of Science and Science Fair. He developed a Chemistry II class as well as Botany. He drove ambulance and served as an EMT for 5 years. Joe and his wife planted the orchard in 1974 and added the Christmas Tree farm in 1986. He served as greeter for Eastman's Funeral Home for a short time. Joe always loved the outdoors, hunting, trapping, rock, fossil, and mushroom collecting to name a few. He enjoyed a mean game of Euchre as well. He was most proud of his loving 2 daughters Jennifer Sexton (Nathan) James, and Jennette Sexton (Bryce) Crumrine and their spouses' accomplishments. He had hoped to enjoy and have more time with his three grandchildren Camden, Jonathan and Penelope Crumrine. Besides his devoted wife and daughters, survivors include his mother Edith of Middletown, brothers William (Ollie) Sexton, Larry (Carol) Sexton, both of KY, Jerald Sexton, of Middletown. He was preceded in death by his father Joseph Sr., nieces, cousins, aunts, uncles and grandparents. Joe thoroughly enjoyed teaching his students and talking with customers. He felt it a privilege to be a part of so many students educational journey and the exchange of knowledge with everyone. He wishes each student carries on his passion for knowledge and part of him lives on in those he touched. Joe preferred no visitations and a private family memorial service to be held at a later date. Donations in his memory may be directed to the American Cancer Society Joseph and Jeannette M.
