IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joyce Ilene
Huestis
July 11, 1934 – January 3, 2025
Joyce Ilene Huestis, 90, of New London, died peacefully with her family by her side, on Friday, January 3, 2025, at UH Ashland Samaritan. She was born on July 11, 1934, in Ney, Ohio; she was the daughter of the late Floyd and Gladys (Rose) Chase. Joyce was a cancer survivor.
Joyce was a High School graduate of New London High School. In 1955 she married Harlan "Mike" Huestis and Joyce dedicated her life to her family. As a devoted homemaker, she cherished the years spent raising her children, before embarking on a fulfilling career of 31 years as the high school secretary at New London Schools, where her kindness and efficiency left a lasting impression. Mike and Joyce shared 64 years of marriage until his passing in 2019.
A faithful member of the New London Alliance Church, Joyce served where ever she was needed, offering her time and talents to support the congregation. One highlight of her service included a Mission Trip to Ecuador where she used her talents. She found joy in sewing, reading, gardening/canning, making fudge and traveling. Joyce had a gift of hospitality and hosted many family gatherings, Bible studies, missionaries and exchange students throughout her life. As a memorial to Mike, her husband, Joyce was instrumental in installing a light at the end of the driveway to remind us to let our light shine for Jesus. Her unwavering love, faith in God and Godly - life was an example to all those close to her and will be fondly remembered.
Joyce is survived by her daughter, Rebecca and Tim Rarden of Carlisle, Ohio, son Michael and Connie Huestis of Alexandria, Indiana, daughter Carolyn and Tony Hamilton of New London, and son Jeff and Angela Huestis of New London; siblings, Anita Jean Wonder of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Mark Chace of Norfolk, Virginia, and Gloria and Ed Aluzas of Claremont, California. Joyce has 10 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mike, Joyce was preceded in death by her siblings Yvonne Stantz, Norbert Chase, and Stuart Chase.
