Joyce E. Rutherford, 88, of Wellington passed away November 4, 2024 at Welcome Nursing Home. She was born on May 17, 1936 to Malcom Stanley and Vergie Johnson Stanley in Scott County, Virginia. She graduated from Rye Cove High School in 1953.

She married Charles Rutherford on August 28, 1954 and they were married for 67 years. Joyce moved to Ohio in 1956 and worked for Wellington Schools. She was a member of Freewill Baptist Church in Wellington.

In her free time, Joyce enjoyed cooking, traveling, and spending time with her family.

Left to treasure her memory are her children, Sandy Plaskett, of Norwalk, Dennis (Michelle) Rutherford, of Blountville, TN, and Lisa (Dennis) Norton, of Olympia, WA; grandchildren, Adam, Carly, Brandon, Kelly, Jordan, Hannah, Jacqueline, Jimmy, Doug, Melissa, and Rebecca; 10 great-grandchildren;  brother, Fred Stanley, of Wellington, daughters-in-law, Vickie and Kathy Rutherford; and countless nieces and nephews.

Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Rutherford; siblings, Glenn Stanley, Billy Stanley, Ray Stanley, Jewell Stallard, and Patty Reams; children, Steve, Dale, and Roger Rutherford; and son-in-law, Donald Plaskett.

Visitation will be held on Friday, November 8, from 10 a.m. until the time of services beginning at 12 p.m. at the Freewill Baptist Church, 205 Woodland Street, Wellington. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
