Julia D. Shepherd, 84, of Greenwich, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on June 10, 1941, in Ruskin, Florida, to the late Cornelius and Lonice (White) McGriff and was a graduate of East Bay High School in Gibsonton, Florida.
Family was everything to Julia, or “Gigi” as she was affectionately known. She gladly spent much of her time and energy following with joy her children and grandchildren’s athletic and extracurricular pursuits. She also enjoyed bird watching, gospel sings, and traveling, especially trips to the beach. Her life was a beautiful reflection of her deep love for Jesus.
In addition to the matriarch of the family, Julia worked many places outside the home including Hobby Lobby and East of Chicago, where she often traveled around to different locations to train and help things run smoothly and efficiently. Julia was a member of The Foundation Church in Norwalk.
She is survived by her loving children, Scott (Robin) Shepherd, Greg (Shari) Shepherd, and Sonia (Jeff) Oney; grandchildren, Cole (Brittany) Shepherd, Brent (Kimberly) Shepherd, Kurt (Meagan) Shepherd, Cameron (Haley) Shepherd, Megan (Zach) Brown, Christian Shepherd, Payton (Kailee) Oney, Cortney (Justin) Sparks; great grandchildren, Quinn, Huxley, Kipton, Luke, Hadleigh, Harper, Gracyn, Bo, Brody, Emerson, Macie, Logan, Sophie, and Rowan; sister in-law, Sue Music, and brother in-law, Gene Shepherd and friend, Wayne Davis.
In addition to her parents, Julia was preceded in death by her loving husband, James Shepherd, and 8 siblings.
Visitation for Julia will be held on Friday, April 10, 2026, at Greenwich Baptist Church, 96 Townsend St., Greenwich, OH 44837, from 12 p.m. (noon) until 3 p.m. A funeral service will begin at 3 p.m. with Pastor Bob Hudberg officiating. Burial will follow across the street at Greenwich Greenlawn Cemetery. Julia’s family is forever grateful for the incredible kindness and support from the staff at Southern Care Hospice.
