Karen Lee (Shelley) Berry, 83, of Norwalk, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 9, 2025. She was born December 4, 1941, in Norwalk, to the late Max J. and Alma (Courtad) Shelley. She was a graduate of Norwalk St. Paul High School.
Karen was a wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and dear friend to many. She was an avid reader and enjoyed gardening and perfecting her flower beds every weekend. She built an impressive collection of Precious Moments and found joy in creating elaborate seasonal displays. Karen was a dedicated fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes and NASCAR. She was beloved by all for her famous Mandarin Orange Jello. She enjoyed BINGO with her friends, lunching with fellow school retirees and Sunday meals with family.
Karen dedicated 33 years to the Norwalk City School System as a secretary. She touched the lives of thousands of students at Bronson and League Street Elementary Schools before retiring in 2007. She was president of the NCS Classified Employees Union for many years. She established the Duane Berry Track/CC Memorial Fund, benefitting many NHS athletic teams. She also served as a Bronson Township Fiscal Officer. Karen was a devout member of the Norwalk United Methodist Church congregation.
Karen is survived by her husband of 63 years, Dave Berry; their youngest son, Robert (Karen) Berry; grandchildren, Duane (TaShawna), Clint (Brooke), Gregg, and Nicholas "Cole"; siblings, Dale (Linda) Shelley, Janet (Walter) Valentine, and Roger "Butch" (Bonnie) Shelley; 4 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Karen was preceded in death by her two eldest sons Gregg and Duane, her parents Max and Alma, and in-laws Donald and Carmen (Wiseman) Berry.
Visitation for Karen will be held on Friday, February 21, 2025, from 4 - 7 p.m. at the Walker-Eastman-Heydinger Funeral Home, 98 W. Main St., Norwalk OH. Friends and family are also invited to attend the visitation at the Norwalk First United Methodist Church, 60 W. Main St., Norwalk, OH and from 9:30-10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 22, 2025, the funeral service will follow at 10:30 a.m. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Norwalk United Methodist Church, or the Norwalk Lions Club, PO Box 92, Norwalk, OH 44857.
