Karen F. Sword, 65, of Ashland, died Sunday, April 22, 2012 at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus. She was born in Grafton on January 7, 1947 to the late John and Helen (nee Schaffer) McKean. Karen grew up in Huntington and was a 1965 Black River High School Graduate.
Karen retired from Lorain Correctional Institution after 11 years. She enjoyed spending her time crocheting and playing computer games. Karen also liked watching NASCAR and spending time in her flower garden. Most of all Karen cherished the time she spent with her children and grandchildren; her family will always remember the good sense of humor that she had.
Karen is survived by her loving husband of 35 years, Stoney; children, John Temple, of Wellington, Bob (Lynne) Temple, of Polk, Melissa (John) Savel, of Wellington Shawn (Crystle) Sword, of Ashland, and Shane Sword, of Sullivan; grandchildren, Misty Temple, Michael Savel, Shelbie Temple, Brooke Temple, Landen, Chase, and Mason Sword. She is also survived by her siblings, Tom (Alice) and Ed McKean and Mary Raab. Karen was preceded in death by her step mother, Ann McKean; sister Martha McKean, and her son, Chad.
Friends and family will be received Thursday, April 26, from 5-8 p.m. at Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, 370 South Main, Wellington, where services will be held on Friday beginning at 11 a.m. with Rev. Gary West officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Donations in Karen's memory may be directed to the family in care of Norton-Eastman Funeral Home.
