Karl E. Garn, age 86, of LaGrange died Monday, April 28, 2008 at Elyria Memorial Hospital following a short illness. He was born June 15, 1921 in West Salem to the late Guy and Ida Mae Garn. Karl was a good athlete in school and served in the Army during World War II.
Karl worked as a mason for the Jack Yates and T.J. Hume Construction Companies. He showed registered Morgan horses and was an avid bowler. Karl was a member of the Kipton Community Church, the Masonic Lodge, and was a lifetime member of the VFW in Grafton.
Survivors include his wife of 20 years, Mae; his children, Robert (Jeani) Porter and Gerry (Dwight) Askew, both of Wellington, David Porter of North Myrtle Beach, SC, Charles Garn of Oberlin, Karla (Jeremy) Bickley of Norwalk, Edward Garn of LaGrange, Calvin (Nancy) Wyckoff of Elyria, Darleen (Bernie) Uline of Oberlin, and Debra Wyckoff of Wellington; his grandchildren, Robert Porter, Ryan Porter, Bethany Rutherford, Adam Rutherford, Daniel Askew, Jared Bickley, Timothy Wyckoff, Charles Watkins, and Kimberly Poythress; and his great grandchildren, Robert Porter III, Abby Green, Mariah McPhie, Calob Green, Alyssa Wyckoff, Austin Wyckoff, Ashley Wyckoff, Danielle Poythress, Tracy Poythress, Mckala Poythress, and Justin Watkins. Karl is also survived by two sisters, June Bianchi of Canton and Mae Dravenstott of Ashland. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Peggy Garn, his grandson, Christopher Watkins, a brother, Ross Garn, and two sisters, Irene Ritchie and Eleanor Ray Garn.
Friends may call from 5 '9 pm on Wednesday, April 30 at Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, 370 S. Main St., Wellington, where funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 am with Pastor Lee Stull officiating. Burial at Resthaven Memory Garden, Avon Lake will take place at a later date.
