Pauline 'Kaye' Mechling, 65, of Sullivan, passed away unexpectedly Friday, January 2, 2009 at her home. Kaye was born February 20, 1943 to Hubert and Ethel Grooms in Lynx, Ohio. She was a 1961 graduate of Jefferson High School in Adams County; she resided in Sullivan for 30 years.
Her life was dedicated to helping others; she was a health care provider who donated blood regularly. She served on jury duty several times and she liked helping others with her sewing and crafts from her home. Kaye, as everyone called her, was employed by Weber's Nursing Home in Wellington, where she retired only to return to help out wherever she could. She was a member of the Sullivan Congregational Church and the Hamilton Church in Lynx.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William D. Mechling, her father, Hubert Grooms and her older sister, Juanita. She is survived by her mother, Ethel Grooms of Lynx; her 3 sons, David Winslow, William K. Mechling and Curtis Mechling; and four grandchildren, Jared Winslow, Conner Winslow, Blitz Mechling and Skylar Mechling. Kaye is also survived by her siblings, Kenneth Grooms of Lynx, Gary Grooms of Bluecreek, Don Grooms of Dayton, Ruby Vogler of Beavercreek, Audrey Shiveley of Bellbrook , Violet Darst of Dayton and their respective others.
Friends and family will be received from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday, January 8 at Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, 370 S. Main St., Wellington. Friends will also be received Friday at the Sullivan Congregational Church, 503 U.S. 224, from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. Funeral Service. Rev. Robert Gault will officiate and burial will follow at Sullivan Southview Cemetery.
