Obituary

Kenneth L. Ferrell, age 91, formerly of Greenwich, died at Bourbon Heights Nursing Home in Paris, Kentucky, on Tuesday, February 23, 2010 after an extended illness. Mr. Ferrell had recently relocated to Kentucky to be near his only son and family. He was born August 13, 1918 on a family farm in Huron County where he was a life long resident. He was the son of the late, William Clyde and Lena Gladys (McGaw) Ferrell. On September 22, 1940, Kenneth married Jane Elizabeth (Hopkins) Ferrell. Together they owned and operated Ferrell's IGA grocery for over 30 years. She preceded him in death in 1995. A graduate of Greenwich High School, Kenneth served in the 41st Service Group of the United States Air Force during WWII. S/Sgt. Ferrell served 18 months in England in the European Theatre of Operations. He received the WWII Victory Medal and a Good Conduct Medal. He was a member of the Greenwich American Legion Mil Bow Mar Post 280 and the Greenwich United Methodist Church. During his years of retirement he enjoyed helping others by mowing lawns and selling fruits and vegetables. He was an avid gardener and loved spending time outdoors. Surviving are his son, Stephen L. and daughter-in-law, Pauletta (Graham) Ferrell of Paris, Kentucky. One grandson, Bryan K. and wife, Victoria Ferrell, and great-grandson, Connor Ferrell, all of Danville, Kentucky. One granddaughter, Stephenie (Ferrell) Hood and husband, Michael Hood of Lawrenceburg, Kentucky. In addition to his immediate family, Mr. Ferrell is survived by one brother-in-law, Mr. Charles Foster of Medina and one sister-in-law, Mrs. Jeanne (Robert) Hopkins of Greenwich, along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Gwendolyn (Ferrell) Vajda and one nephew, Gregory Vajda. The family will receive visitors on Friday, February 26th from 4-8:00 P.M. at Eastman's Funeral Home, 49 W. Main St., Greenwich. A Celebration of Life Service will take place on Saturday, February 27th beginning at 11:00 A.M. at the Greenwich United Methodist Church.
