Kenneth Ray Hissong

Kenneth Ray Hissong, better known by many as Kenny, entered into eternal rest on May 9, 2026. Kenny was born on July 8, 1937, in Savannah, Ohio, and graduated from Savannah High School in 1956. He later proudly served in the United States Air Force. Kenny settled in the Nankin area where he raised his four children. Kenny would eventually make his home outside New London in a cabin with beloved wife Lynette, who he sadly lost in 2021. Kenny and his wife Lynette enjoyed many years together at their cabin, keeping the yard and flower beds immaculate. Kenny worked for Reiter Dairy for many years and retired in 1997. But Kenny didn’t truly retire, because he went on to work tirelessly mowing lawns for many families for years. Kenny was a devoted member of the New London United methodist Church where he served for many years in many different capacities, and up until the end served faithfully as communion and offertory steward.

Kenny enjoyed watching sports and Nascar on TV, but he loved most being on his lawnmower. Upon his great granddaughter’s final visit with Kenny, she asked, “Well, who’s gonna mow Kenny’s lawn? And then proceeded to ask on the drive home what he would be doing if he were at home and was told that he would either be watching the Guardians or mowing his lawn. That conversation speaks volumes about how Kenny enjoyed spending his time, in addition to the many family gatherings that he so loved. The family hopes Kenny will rest easy knowing “the lawn will be taken care of”.

Kenny was a quiet man who loved quietly and will be missed by so many. Although his pew in church will be sadly empty, he now is sitting in glory with the best seat in the house!

Kenny lost his beloved wife of 32 years, Lynette, in 2021. He was also preceded in death by his parents, William and Grace (nee McCormic), and his brother, Gary. Kenny is survived by his four children, Steve (Cheryl) Hissong, Tom (Reve’) Hissong, Debbie (Zane) Gross, and Terry (Layle) Hissong; three stepdaughters, Valerie (Patrick) McGowan-Doyle, Victoria (George) Trask, and Mary Kay (Mike) Held; his siblings, Dick Hissong, Barbara Butler, Stanley Hissong, Dean Hissong and Diane Malone. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren with a great-granddaughter on the way and 8 step-grandchildren and 7 step great-grandchildren, all of whom he loved dearly!
