Kenneth Wayne Park, 72, beloved husband, father, and son, went home to be with the Lord on May 11 following a short illness. He was born on June 30, 1934 in Penfield, and remained a lifelong resident of Lorain County.
A graduate and avid fan of Ohio State University, Ken taught Vo-Ag and was FFA advisor at Midview High School from 1956 to 1969. He was a dedicated teacher, and led his FFA team to the state soil judging championship in 1969. After receiving his Master's degree from Colorado State University in 1969, Ken traded teaching for administration, and remained the principal of Firelands High School until his retirement in 1985. During these years he was active in the Firelands Lions Club, Kipton Community Church, and Lorain County Farm Bureau.
Upon retiring from school administration, Ken fulfilled a lifelong dream by establishing and operating Park Valley Nursery. Plants and interesting landscapes were his passions. He also grew Christmas trees, and many will fondly remember the trips to Park Valley Nursery to select a tree and enjoy cookies and hot chocolate around the franklin stove. Ken was also a professor of horticulture with Ohio State University for several years.
Ken will be remembered by family and friends as a fun person, full of life and character. He had a myriad of hobbies, including fishing, sport shooting, and golfing. He was the proud holder of a 2004 'hole-in-one' trophy from Westfield Country Club and was a member of the Westfield men's championship team in 2005. He enjoyed anything involving outdoors, such as boating and jet-skiing, and traveling. An avid euchre player, he will fondly be remembered by his family as 'Tenacious,' the euchre patriarch.
Ken is survived by his wife Constance (nee Crile Mosher) of Wellington, sons Jeff of Wellington, and Jon of Westfield, and daughters, Jody Conrad of Mobile, AL and Jane Plas of Grafton, stepson Todd Mosher of Spencer and stepdaughter Trisha Rome of Yorba Linda, CA. He is also survived by his mother Leona of Penfield, brother Rich of Boise, ID, and a sister Sally of Penfield, and 13 adoring grandchildren and one great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife, Susan, on April 11, 1997, and father Frank in 1987.
Family and friends will be received on Monday, May 14 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 at Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, 370 S. Main Street, Wellington. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at the Wellington United Methodist Church, 125 Park Place, with Reverend Lea Mahan officiating.
