Gary L. Mayo, 73 of St. Augustine, FL, died Monday, July 29th in Jonesboro, AR.
He was born February 14, 1940 to Lester and Eulalia (nee Settlemoir) Mayo in Pollard, AR.
Gary was an independent businessman who owned several businesses in Michigan and Florida. His primary business was A&G Hardware in Rochester Hills, MI, which he owned from 1972-2011. Gary and his wife, Sally, have lived in St. Augustine, FL since 1991. He was a member of Crescent Beach Baptist Church of Crescent Beach, FL. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Gary thoroughly enjoyed meeting people and helping anyone in need. He was passionate about missions, having worked on numerous projects in the United States and various foreign countries. He served as a volunteer chaplain to incarcerated young men through the ARK Youth Ministries in St. Johns County, FL. Most of all, he loved his Lord Jesus Christ, and wanted everyone else to know Him also.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Sally Mayo; a sister, Linda Clark of Jonesboro, AR; daughters, JoEllen Foster of Adams, WI, Leslie King of Jonesboro, AR , Rachael Alexander of Wellington, OH, Lisa Saxon of Raleigh, NC, Laynie Veitch of Leonard, MI; grandchildren, Matthew Burch of Rochester Hills, MI, Stephen Burch of Rutland, VT, Bethany Gass of China, Daniel Alexander of Greenville, SC, Stacy Mancera of Wilson, NC, Hannah East of Luddington, MI, and Joanna Alexander of Wellington, OH; and 7 great-grandchildren.
Friends may call Friday August 2, 2013 from 6-8 p.m. at Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, 370 South Main St. Wellington. Services will be held on Saturday beginning at 10 a.m. at the Wellington First Baptist Church, 125 Grand Ave, with services conducted by his son-in-law, Rev Thomas Alexander, burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Wellington.
