Larry L. Davis, 69, of Wellington, died Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at home after a lengthy illness. Born on April 19, 1947 in Greenville PA, he was the son of the late Theodore and Verba (nee Altman) Davis. After graduating from Edinboro State College with a Bachelors of Art in 1970, Larry moved to North East Ohio where he lived the remainder of his life.
Larry was a pharmaceutical Rep. for 35 years working for Burroughs Wellcome and retiring from Glaxo Smith Kline. He specialized in HIV and Oncology, working very closely with doctors he helped train many people in these areas. Larry was very proud to have been at the forefront of such major medical advancements and was glad to have been able to help.
After retirement, Larry was able to pursue a lifelong passion of working outdoors by helping seasonally with the Lorain County MetroParks.
Always active in his community, Larry enjoyed spending his time volunteering. He was a member of the East Elyria Kiwanis Club, where he was a past president, and the Wellington Kiwanis club. Larry and his wife Karen drove for the Wellington Senior bus, and delivered Meals on Wheels as well. He was an active member of the Wellington First Congregational United Church of Christ and helped to create a memorial garden there. Larry enjoyed running until his health declined but still continued to enjoy walks in the parks with his dogs Tana, Zahn, and now Sammie. Larry also enjoyed reading, history, landscaping and gardening. Music was very special to Larry and he was proud to have shared his love of classical and opera music with his son Jason.
Larry is survived by his loving wife of 48 years Karen (nee Cooper); his son Jason of Tremont; siblings Dion (Linda) Davis of TX, and Victoria (Dave) Perlowski, of CO.
Friends and family will be received on Saturday, January 7, from 2 until the time of a memorial service beginning at 3 p.m. at the Wellington Congregational UCC, 140 South Main St, Wellington, 44090. Rev. Becki Verbridge will officiate.
