Obituary

Larry Wayne Gill, 71, of Amherst, died Thursday, February 20, 2025 at the Cleveland Clinic. Born on April 21, 1953 in Widen, WV, he was the son of the late Ovalee and Ina (nee Workman) Gill. Larry moved to Vermilion, Ohio, when he was 13 and graduated from Vermilion High School in 1973. He enlisted in the Ohio National Guard and proudly served for 8 years.

For 30 years Larry worked at Ridge Tool where he referred to himself as a professional boxer, retiring in 2017. He enjoyed bowling and playing cornhole. Larry was very proud of his garden and enjoyed tending to his vegetables. He also enjoyed time in the woods with his brother Scotty, and walks with his grandson Christopher and dog Annie.

Survivors include his loving wife Debra (nee Schofield); step-children, Nathan (Janet) Ridenour, of Amherst, Christa (Steve) Bacsi, of Wakeman, Wendy (Damon) Ridenour-O'Neil, of Elyria, and Anthony Ridenour, of Wakeman; grandchildren, Zachary Ridenour, Ashlyn Ridenour, Mathew Ridenour Rogers, Anthony James Ridenour, Christopher Ridenour, Emma (Darrel) Nibert, Steven Bacsi, Amelia Bacsi, and Samuel Bacsi; siblings, Ricky Gill, Lois Kincaid, Donna (Junior) Dawson, all of WV, Scotty Gill, of Amherst, Terry (Jeff) Stutler and Christopher Gill, both of WV; numerous nieces and nephews; and his dear neighbors, Louis, Melanie, Mike and Julia Douzos.

Friends and family are invited to a Celebration of Life on Saturday, March 1, at 4 p.m. at Florence Church, 11801, State Route 113, Berlin Heights, Pastor Jim Rico will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to either the Florence Church or to the Special Olympics, www.support.specialolympics.org.
