Larry D. Hines, 79, a lifelong Wellington resident, died Saturday, November 12, 2016 surrounded by his family at Fisher-Titus Medical Center. Born on July 20, 1937 in Wellington, he was the son of the late Russell E. Hines and Pauline (nee Simonson) McKisson. Larry was a 1955 graduate of Wellington High School and served in the National Guard.
Larry worked for the Ford Motor Co. for a short time and then took a job as a lineman with LMRE, later becoming a foreman and retiring in 1999. He was a member of the Brighton Congregational Church and a past president of the Wellington Eagles Aerie 2051. Larry was quite the handyman and enjoyed working on nearly anything from antique furniture to restoring old houses. He was a NASCAR fan and enjoyed going to races. An avid outdoorsman, Larry liked to bow hunt, travel, ride his motorcycle, and go on road trips. He enjoyed time with friends, whether it was playing poker or helping out an Amish family, but most of all Larry cherished his family. He loved his children and grandchildren and enjoyed watching the sporting events that they were involved with.
Survivors include his loving wife Cheryl (nee Ewell) Hines; children Cynthia (Christopher) Czernec, of Oberlin, Diane (Raymond) Yeager, of Wellington, Russell Hines, and Eric Hines, both of TX; step-sons Dean (Cynthia) Stanfield, of Sandusky, and Christopher (Amy Donaldson) Stanfield, of Brighton; 16 grandchildren; 18 great- grandchildren; siblings Jean Leiter, Lois Riley, Ronnie, Claude, and Dan Thompson. Larry was preceded in death by his brothers Jerry and Norman.
Friends and family will be received on Friday, November 18, from 5-8 p.m. at Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, 370 South Main Street, Wellington, where services will be held on Saturday, beginning at 1 p.m. with Rev. John Burgess officiating. Burial will follow at Brighton Twp Cemetery. Donations in Larry's memory may be directed to the Brighton Congregational Church, 22086, State RT 511, Wellington.
