Obituary

Larry George Hurst, of Pittsfield, passed away on Tuesday, June 4, 2024 at the Cleveland Clinic at the age of 79.  Born in 1944 on Christmas Eve to parents Thelma (nee Smith) and Elton Hurst, Larry grew up in Pittsfield.  Larry was a 1964 graduate of Oberlin High School and earned an associate's degree from Lorain County Community College. He served in the United States Army during Vietnam, from 1965-67 and was a member of the First Battalion of the 7th Calvary Regiment. Larry earned two purple hearts during his service to his country.

Larry worked at Harshaw Chemical and Invacare.  He was a farmer at heart and loved spending time on his farm. In 1965, on Palm Sunday, his family's farm and farm buildings were destroyed yet he survived the Pittsfield Tornado.

He was a member of the Pittsfield Community Church, the Wellington American Legion and the Country Roads Good Sam Camping Club.

With an outdoor spirit, Larry loved camping and travel. He treasured time with his friends and family, especially his grandchildren. Larry could always be found with his dog, Molly, by his side.

Survivors include his loving wife of 58 years, Elizabeth (nee McConnell); children, Doug Hurst, of Wellington, Joe (Aprille) Hurst, of Troy, Susan (Seth) Norberg, of Marquette, MI; 5 grandchildren, Nathan, Nick, and Nevin Hurst and Ann and Margaret Norberg; and siblings Russell and John Hurst. Larry was preceded in death by his siblings, Arlene Pycraft, Loretta Bartter, Janet Haynes, Jim Hurst, and Ed Hurst.
