LaRue Burkett, 80, of Sullivan, died Sunday, May 20, 2012 at her home after a long illness. She was born on June 27, 1931 in Wellington to the late Lynn and Mildred (nee Johnson) Storrow. LaRue graduated from Wellington High School in 1947 and was a lifelong resident of Sullivan.
A member of the Sullivan Congregational Church, LaRue enjoyed teaching and attending Sunday School. She also belonged to the Women's Auxiliary for the Lions Club and helped with the Sullivan fire department while her husband was a firefighter. She enjoyed watching and interacting with kids.
Survivors include her daughter, Christine (Ron) Henry, of Sullivan; grandsons, Jeffrey Jr. and Clifford (Brandy), both of Sullivan; granddaughters, Jamey (Mike) Beamer, of Medina, and Tiffany (Tony) Bring, of Collins; daughter-in-law, Dawn Burkett, of Sullivan and great grandchildren, Izaac, Logan, and Isabella LaRue. She is also survived by her siblings, Norman, Max and Patsy Jo, all of Wellington. LaRue was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Vernon; sons, Clifford Lynn and Jeffrey; grandson, Brian and siblings, Frank, Lois May, Don and Jeanie.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 23 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, 370 S. Main St., Wellington. Funeral services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. with one hour prior for visitation at the Sullivan Congregational Church, 503 US Highway 224, Sullivan, with Pastor Donald Farley officiating.
