Rev. Lawrence Bernard Bryan, 88, of Wellington, died Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at the Elms Retirement Village in Wellington. He was born on January 7, 1928, in Garnett, Kansas to the late Lawrence and Ella (nee Maggio) Bryan. Larry graduated from Butler High School in Missouri. He went on to attend Southern Methodist University in Dallas,TX and attended seminary at Perkins School of Theology where he earned an MDiv. Larry continued his education studying at Hebrew University in Semitics and earned a Masters in Old Testament.
Rev. Bryan was an ordained Elder in the United Methodist Church and served for 35 years as a minister, retiring in 1990. He baptized all of his kids and grandkids. Larry was a talented photographer and always had his camera nearby. He was also an accomplished violinist and model train enthusiast. Most recently, Larry enjoyed traveling around town on his bicycle.
Larry is survived by his wife Norma Sue (nee McEldowney); children Deborah (Dave) Sheldon, of NC, Gary (Anita) Bryan of TX, Jami (Dan) Rosus, of WV, Larry (BJ) Bryan of NE, Timothy (Laura) Bryan and Kimberly (Craig) Sibbio both of Akron; 19 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter Teresa, and sisters Gloria and Rita.
A memorial service will he held on Saturday, January 16, 2016, beginning at 1 p.m. at the Wellington First United Methodist Church, 127 Park Place, Wellington, 44090, with Pastor Paul Wilson and Chaplin Roger Loomis officiating.
