Lawrence (Larry) Francis Hodgson, 66, of Sullivan passed away on Thursday, October 4 at University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center in Elyria, Ohio.
Larry was born on June 5, 1952 in San Bernadino, California the son of Lawrence and Josephine (nee Paonessa) Hodgson. Despite being born in California, Larry was very much an Ohioan and son of Lorain County. Larry was raised in Elyria and graduated from Elyria High School in 1970. Larry was a veteran of the United States Army.
Larry was very much a local businessman and throughout his life owned a variety of businesses and establishments in Lorain County including The Canteen and Wellington Cycle and ATV. Larry was also very involved in a variety of organizations supportive of veterans and because of this, and his decades of business presence, made many friends throughout his lifetime. He was an active member of the Eagles, VFW and the American Legion. There wasn't anywhere Larry could go and not know somebody. When not running his businesses or spending time in the community, Larry could be found in the garage building motorcycles, on the road riding his Harley, or out deep in the woods - as he was known to be an avid outdoorsman; enjoying camping, hunting and fishing any chance he could get. And with all of this in his life, Larry's greatest love was his family. Nothing made Larry happier than to have his family around the dinner table, laughing, joking and entertaining them with stories of his life's adventures.
Larry is survived by his wife of 42 years, Jean (nee Ross) of Sullivan, his three sons Brian (Erin) of Burbank, Ross (Jennifer) of Iron River, Wisconsin, and Lawrence Jr. of Elyria. He is further survived by his elder sister Joanne (Tony) Hoty of Salisbury, North Carolina and his twin sister, Mary Beth (George) Pais of Alex City, Alabama.
