Leo Paul Evans, Sr., 85, of Brighton, died Tuesday, December 8, 2015 at Mercy Regional Medical Center in Lorain. Paul was born in Royal Leamington Spa, England on January 18, 1930 to the late Bernard and Emma Dorothy (nee Adkins) Evans. He moved to the United States in 1947 and lived in Lorain and Elyria before settling in Brighton in 1957. Paul proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1952-1954; he was a Sergeant Instructor in Ft. Eustis, VA.
At the age of 17 Paul became employed at Thew Shovel in Lorain as a welder and fitter. After 30 years at Thew Shovel, Paul worked for Anvil Attachments (now Cleveland City Forge) and retired after 15 years in 1992. He enjoyed woodworking and making his own furniture. Paul was also an avid flower gardener.
He is survived by his loving wife, Lois I. (nee Papp) Evans; children, Laura Reaser, of Wellington, Leo Paul (Elizabeth) Evans, Jr., of Oberlin, Rebecca (Dennis) Helwig, of Tampa, FL, Eric (Sandra) Evans, Sr., of Brighton, Lisa (Raymond) Chavalia, of Ringgold, GA and Rochelle (Donald) Youngblood, of Lagrange; 19 grandchildren;19 great grandchildren; several nephews and a niece. Paul was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Hooper.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 12 from 10 am until the 11 am Service at Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, 370 S. Main St., Wellington with Father James Reymann officiating. Burial will follow at Brighton Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be given at: www.norton-eastmanfuneralhome.com.
