Leo 'Big Daddy' McManus, age 77, of Wellington, passed away Friday, October 3, 2008 surrounded by family at the home of his daughter and son-in-law. Born in Watertown, MA on October 6, 1930, Leo was the son of the late Frank and Margaret McManus. Following high school, Leo enlisted in the United States Army and during his 22 years he served two tours during the Korean War and a tour in Thailand during the Vietnam War. Leo also worked for the Lorain County Metro Parks for 18 years, first as a ranger and then as the purchasing agent.
Leo was a member of the Elyria VFW, the Wellington Eagles, and the Wellington American Legion. He enjoyed mowing his lawn and watching his grandchildren's activities.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Bobbie McManus, his daughter and son-in-law, Doris and Jim Cook and grandchildren, Kevin, Kyle and Rachel Cook all of Wellington. Leo was preceded in death by 3 sisters, Catherine, Ruth and Marjorie, and 6 brothers, Charles, Paul, Frank, Warren, Robert and John.
Friends and family will be received on Monday, October 6 from 2-4 p.m. and from 7-9 p.m. at Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, 370 S. Main St., Wellington where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday with Rev. James Reymann officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery with military rites.
