Obituary

Leon William Wacker, 88, died Monday, June 3, 2013 in Rock Hill, South Carolina. Born in Elyria on November 16, 1924, Leon lived in Brighton and Wellington all his life until convalescing at his son John's home the last two years. He graduated from Wellington High School in 1942 and served as a military police in the Army during WWII. Leon was employed as Plant Manager for Parson's Dairy until their closing and retired as a Postal Carrier in 1986. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and United Church of Huntington where he served as a trustee. He enjoyed fishing and sports of all kind. He was married to Genevieve (Gordon) for 63 years. He is survived by son William Wacker (Beverly) of Myrtle Beach S.C., daughter Judith Ferry (Patrick) of Russell Springs, Ky., daughter Brenda Johnson of York, S.C., son John Wacker (Brenda) of Nesbit, Ms., and son Robert Wacker (Kathryn) of Columbus, Ohio; 18 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren. Leon is also survived by siblings Russell Wacker, JoAnne Pasadyn, Lavonne Venus, Robert Wacker, Allan Wacker, Betty McConnell and Gary Wacker. He was preceded in death by wife Genevieve and son James Wacker, his parents Herbert and Ruby (nee Krugman) Wacker, brothers Elden and Paul, sisters Alberta and Audrey. Visitation will be held Saturday, June 8 from noon until the 2:00 p.m. service at the United Church of Huntington, 26677 State Route 58, with Rev. Stephen Carmany officiating. Burial will follow at Huntington Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the United Church of Huntington.
