Leonard Burke, 75, of Sullivan, died Monday, March 14, 2011 at Lodi Community Hospital. Born on June 10, 1935 to the late Steely Siler and Viola (nee Huff) Burke, Leonard grew up in Kentucky. He was a Sullivan resident for the past 22 years.
He worked for St. Regis, which later became Georgia Pacific, as a tow motor operator and retired at 64. Leonard was a member of the Lions Club, was the Eucharistic Minister at Community of Jesus the Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Nova and served on the zoning board in Sullivan. His hobbies included camping, fishing, playing horseshoes, and bowling. Leonard was very handy and could repair anything.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Jeanette; children, Theresa (Buddy) Hunter, of Ashland, Leonard A. Burke, of Sullivan, Neil Edward Burke, of Marion, Elizabeth J. (Robert L.) Fleming, of Sullivan, Sandy (Rick) Osborne of Brookpark; 11 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. He is also survived by brother, Leland (Donna) Burke and sister-in-law, Betty Smith. Leonard was preceded in death by his brother, Bobby Smith.
Friends will be received on Thursday, March 17 from 5-8 p.m. at Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, 370 S. Main St., Wellington. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday at 11 a.m. at the Community of Jesus the Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 240 State Route 511, Nova with Father Ron Bryda officiating.
