Leroy Arthur Stober, age 70, of Wakeman, died Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at the Cleveland Clinic after a lengthy illness. He was born September 14, 1941 in New London, son of the late Ben and Ona (Jones) Stober. Leroy was raised in Clarksfield Township and had lived in Wakeman for 43 years. He was a 1959 graduate of New London High School and a 1961 graduate of the Oberlin School of Commerce. He had served in the U.S. Army. Leroy had worked for several years at Ohio Body in New London and owned and operated Stober Insurance Co. since 1969. He was a member of the Wakeman Congregational Church, Wakeman American Legion Post 689, charter member of the Western Reserve Ruritan Club, charter member of Wakeman Eagles 4354, member of the Gibson Lodge 301, a 32nd Degree Mason, Royal Arch Mason, Firelands Shrine, Scottish Rite of Ohio, Wakeman Grange 1399, Althea Chapter of OEA 438, the Huron County Veterans Commission, a former Wakeman Village Councilman, a Republican Committeemen for Wakeman Village, former Chairman of Huron County Republican Party, a member of the Vermilion River Ambulance Board, Treasurer of New London Alumni Assoc., member of Bumps and Grinds Model T Club, former Citizens Ambulance EMT, former member of the Board of Public Affairs Village of Wakeman, Advisory Board for Friends of the Library, assisted at the food booth at Western Reserve Football games and the food booth at the Huron County Fair Grange booth.
Leroy had volunteered at Towne & Country Theatre, Norwalk working in their box office for 25 years. He made 2 trips to Biloxi, Mississippi with the Back Bay Mission group remodeling homes after the Katrina hurricane. Leroy enjoyed traveling, remodeling houses and selling real estate.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly (Timbs) Stober whom he married June 29, 1968; his son, Daniel Stober of Chicago, Illinois; siblings, Rosemary (George) Hansen of Norwalk, Sandy (Pat) Ryan of North Ridgeville, Ohio; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Carl Stober.
Friends may call from 2 ' 5 p.m. and 6 ' 9 p.m. Friday, May 25, 2012, at the Eastman Funeral Home, 200 West Main St., New London where a Masonic Service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Friends may also call from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the Wakeman Congregational Church, 14 E. Abbott St., Wakeman with Rev. Edgar Shelly officiating. Burial with military rites will follow at Wakeman Cemetery.
