Obituary

(Lillian) May Miller, age 96, formerly of Greenwich died Friday, March 6, 2009 at Hillside Acres Nursing Home, Willard. She was born in Methwold, England on August 12, 1912 to the late Thomas & Ann E. (Starling) Bird. In 1922 May and her family left England and moved to Toledo, Ohio. She married Edward J. Miller on June 28, 1930 and enjoyed nearly 58 years together before his death in February 1988. Together they had six children and lived in various townships in Richland and Huron Counties before settling in Greenwich in 1955. May worked 17 years in the cafeteria of South Central Schools in Greenwich. She was an active member of Mt. Hope Lutheran Church of Shiloh and most recently had attended The Ripley Church of Greenwich. She had belonged to the Home Arts Farm Women's Club and the Forever Young Club and was a 50 year member of the Greenwich Grange. In 1988, May and her oldest son, Tom traveled back to her birthplace in England. At the age of 84 May took her GED classes and received her high school diploma. In 2000 she moved to Willard and lived 5 years with her daughter and son-in-law, Connie & Edd Smith. She has been a much loved resident at Hillside Acres for the past 4 years. She is survived by her daughters, Mary Ann (George) Clark of Shiloh, Constance J. (Edd) Smith of Willard, Bonnie E. Farner of Mansfield, one son, Charles R. (Dorothy) Miller of Mansfield; 2 daughters-in-law, Henrietta Miller-Grove of Shelby and Janet Miller of Shiloh; 19 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward J. Miller in 1988, sons, Thomas E. Miller in 1989, A. George Miller in 1990, an infant daughter Jean Ellen Miller in 1943, and infant grandson, David Miller in 1956 and sisters, Margaret G. Ransom and Sybil F. Wilson. May was always a kind and loving mother, grandmother and friend. She spent many hours in her garden tending beautiful flowers, which she always shared with others. She also made beautiful crocheted baby items and afghans for family and friends. Friends and family may call from 3 ' 8 p.m. Sunday, March 8, 2009 at the Eastman Funeral Home, 49 West Main St., Greenwich and from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at 2:00 p.m. Monday at Mt. Hope Lutheran Church, 29 W. Main St., Shiloh, Ohio 44878. Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Shiloh. Memorials if desired may be given to the Mt. Hope Lutheran Church.
