Lucile Miller-Alferio, 96, of Wellington died Thursday, March 5, 2009 at her home.
She was born March 25, 1912 to the late Clarence L. and Ethel Bartlett Wilson in Waterford Township, Washington County, Ohio; being the first of the fifth generation of Wilson's to share the same farmhouse as their birthplace. She graduated from Waterford High School in 1929.
On July 7, 1936 she married Howard F. Miller of Dalzell. After Howard's death in 1983, she married Anthony Alferio of Kipton on July 25, 1997.
Her teaching career began in a one-room elementary schoolhouse in Washington County. She was granted a State Life Elementary Certificate. As a career educator, she held assignments in Washington County schools, Marietta City Schools, Garfield Heights, Kirtland, and West Geauga. Retirement came after 35 years.
Besides teaching, she had been a bookkeeper for Miller Bottling Co., United Pipeline Construction Co., and secretary for Rural Lorain County Water Authority.
She was a 1966-1967 Jennings Scholar, an alumnus of Wilmington College, a member of the National Retired Teachers Association, Ohio Education Association, Life Member of Ohio Retired Teachers Association, State Honorary Life Member of Ohio Congress of Parents and Teachers, Life Member of Lorain County Retired Teachers Association, 50-year member of Marietta Chapter of the National Society Daughters of The American Revolution, Charter Life Member of Ladies Auxiliary to VFW Post 5108 Marietta, and Huntington Historical Society Life Member. Lucile was also a member of the Spencer United Methodist Church and she attended the United Church of Huntington.
She is survived by her husband, Anthony Alferio; nephew, Robert L. Wilson of Cabot, Arkansas; and other beloved relatives and friends. Lucile was predeceased by her first husband, Howard F. Miller and her only brother, Louis H. Wilson.
Friends may call from 2 ' 4 p.m. and from 7 ' 9 p.m. on Sunday, March 8 at Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, 370 S. Main St., Wellington. A service will be held Monday, March 9 at 11 a.m. at the United Church of Huntington, 26677 State Route 58 Wellington, 44090. Burial will follow at Huntington Township Cemetery. Contributions may be given to the United Church of Huntington or to the donor's preference.
