Lyle A. Friend, 88, of Wellington died Monday, February 27, 2012. He was born on June 22, 1923 in Wellington to the late Clarence and Marie (nee Waite) Friend. He attended Wellington High School and joined the United States Army and served in Germany during WWII. He was awarded a Bronze Star and the Purple Heart.
Lyle was a farmer for most of his life and worked for 29 years with Wellington Implement as a set up man. He enjoyed spending time outside and liked to feed the birds and squirrels. Lyle truly loved to spend time with his family especially his granddaughters and great-grandkids
Lyle is survived by his children, Roger (Lynda) Friend of AZ, Nina (Jim) Minnich of Mount Vernon, Ethel (Norm) Harp of Brighton, and Susan (Ken) Jamison of Wellington; 7 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; as well as a brother Donald(Carol)Friend of Pittsfield. Lyle was preceded in death by his loving wife of nearly 60 years, Nola (nee Blessing) in 2006, and sisters Aletha and Jeanette.
Friends will be received on Saturday, March 3, from 11 to 1 p.m. at Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, 370 South Main St, Wellington with services beginning at 1 p.m. with Rev. Lea Mahan officiating, burial will follow at Huntington Cemetery. Donations in Lyle's memory may be directed to Well-Help, 127 Park Place, Wellington, Ohio 44090.
