Marianne Scanlon (Hughes) of Norwalk, Ohio passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday, March 1, 2026. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to many.
Marianne was born on September 1, 1950, in Scranton, Pennsylvania to Russell and Esther Hughes. She moved to Lakewood, Ohio when she was 12. During high school, she met her future husband, Thomas Patrick Scanlon of Lakewood, Ohio. She graduated from Lakewood High School, Class of ’68. She then continued her education at Bowling Green University to become a teacher.
After graduation, she began her work career as a second grade teacher. Tom and Marianne wed on July 3, 1970. Then in 1980 the two moved to Huron, Ohio to open their first of many NAPA Auto Parts stores. They ran the store nonstop and expanded by moving to Norwalk, Ohio to build and open the NAPA store there.
Marianne and Tom welcomed two children, Sarah and Tom in 1982 and 1985. While raising her family, she worked for NAPA from home. She later returned to the classroom teaching 5th grade for Saint Thomas More. Some of the families' favorite memories were spent going on beach vacations to enjoy the sun and surf.
Marianne was preceded in death by her parents, Russell and Esther Hughes; and her sister Diane Miller.
She is survived by her daughter, Sarah Elizabeth Kovarik (Keith) of Norwalk, Ohio; her son, Tom Russell Scanlon of Norwalk, Ohio; as well as many other family members that she loved dearly. Marianne leaves behind two grandchildren whom she treasured: Preston and Ava.
A service will take place at Saint Peter Lutheran Church in Norwalk, Ohio on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at noon. She will be laid to rest at Sunset Cemetery in North Olmsted, Ohio with her parents. Online expressions of sympathy may be made by visiting: www.walkereastmanheydingerfh.com
