Mark Cline Rice, age 58, of New London, departed this life too soon on Sunday, June 12, 2011 at Triumph Hospital, Mansfield. He was born September 26, 1952 in Brownsville, PA., the third of five children born to the late Thomas and Mae (Herre) Rice. At age 8 his family moved to Cleveland, Ohio where he spent the remainder of his childhood and early adult years. He attended Lincoln High School and excelled in football as an offensive tackle. Shortly after graduation he spent 2 years in South Carolina and Georgia on a mission for his church, then headed west to Utah where he met and married Judy May Lee in 1977. Upon returning to Ohio and settling in New London in 1982, he found his career and his art in masonry and worked nearly 30 years as a master bricklayer with his brother, Tom, building hundreds of chimneys, foundations and brick homes in the Cleveland area. His life changed when he suffered from a mild stroke in 2003, and he had to leave masonry, but found new work and many friends at the Miller Bros. grocery store in New London. He and Judy have raised 5 wonderful children and have enjoyed 2 beautiful grandchildren, who will all miss car rides on back country roads, grilling out in the summer and fishing at the reservoir with 'Pop.'
Mark is survived by his wife of almost 34 years, Judy; his children, Andrea (Charles ) Brookover, Allyson (Larkin) LeSueur, Aaron, Emma and Zachary Rice; twin grandchildren, William Mark and Anna Grace LeSueur; his siblings, Thomas (Marina) Rice, Rebecca (Roger) Hurt, Jeni (Robert) Jones, Suzanne (Matthew) Minnich; many nieces and nephews.
