Mary Elizabeth Ford, 101, formerly of New London, died Saturday, February 05, 2011 at Independence House Nursing Home, Fostoria, Ohio.
Mary was born in Austin, West Virginia to the late Joseph and Mary Rachel (Wagner) Whittaker on May 3, 1909. After her high school graduation, she moved with her family to Lorain, where she met and married Sterling 'Stub' Ford in 1929. They later moved to New London where she and her husband owned and operated the Reynolds Lumber Company for many years.
Mary was active in the community as a volunteer reading to children at the elementary school, with the local American Red Cross, New London Hospital Auxiliary, New London Friends of the Library, serving as treasurer. She was an avid bridge player and reader. She was devoted to her family, spending many hours with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She remained a member of the New London United Methodist Church but had attended the Van Buren United Methodist Church after moving to North Baltimore, Ohio in 2002.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Dorothy Ann (Harold) Wilcox of Findlay; 4 grandsons, Carl (Mary) Smith, Kurt (Debbie) Smith, Alan (Janet) Smith and Terry (Beth) Wilcox; 7 great grandchildren; and 7 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1970; a grandson, Jeff Wilcox; 2 brothers; and 2 sisters.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 9, 2011 at Eastman Funeral Home, 200 W. Main St., New London, where friends may call from noon until the time of service. Rev. Cathy Ake will officiate and interment will follow in Grove Street Cemetery, New London.
