Mary J. Stoner Knapp, 89, of Ashland, formerly of New London, passed on April 15, 2009.
She was a 1938 graduate of Ruggles High School. She lived in the Ruggles and New London areas until 1982 when she moved to Ashland. She was employed by the former E. Biglow Company and National City Bank, both of New London.
Mrs. Knapp was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church of Ashland where she joined in the Stephen Ministry Program. She was also a member of the former Birthday Club of New London. She was a 65 year member of the Althea Chapter #438, order of the Eastern Star, where she served in many stations and Worthy Matron twice. She also was District President and Grand Representative to Delaware.
Mrs. Knapp is survived by 1 son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Katherine Stoner of Mansfield, OH; daughter-in-law, Sharon Stoner of Topeka, KA. She is also survived by a step daughter-in-law, Carole Knapp of Springfield, OH; 7 grandchildren, 5 step grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren. Mrs. Knapp was preceded in death by her first husband, J. Milburn Stoner to whom she had been married to for 34 years, her second husband, C. Alfred Knapp to whom she had been married to for 10 years, son, Darrel L. Stoner and step son, Harold O. Knapp.
Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, April 17 with an Eastern Star service beginning at 6 p.m. Friends may also call from 1 p.m. until the time of funeral service at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Eastman Funeral Home, 200 W. Main St., New London with Rev. James Cox officiating. Burial will follow at Grove Street Cemetery, New London.
