Obituary

Mary Elsie McMahon (nee Stiftar),93, passed away on August 2, 2018 at home surrounded by her family. Mary was born February 22, 1925 in Cleveland to Anna and John Stiftar. Growing up in the depression, she knew the need for hard work and she instilled that work ethic in her children. Mary had many jobs through the years, Halle's Department store, bank secretary, technician at Gilford Instrument's in Oberlin, and the one she enjoyed the most was being a wife and mother to her 4 children. She felt at home on the farm gardening, canning and was known for her green thumb. Mary dearly loved her friends, which she made where ever she went. Mary was an avid reader, loved travel and learning new things. Some of the locations she visited included Europe, Hawaii and paddle boat trips down the St. Lawrence, Snake and Mississippi Rivers. Mary also enjoyed her watercolor painting, doing stained glass, Tai'chi, spending time with her family and friends, and never passed up a good garage sale. Through the years Mary belonged to many organizations including the Gem Club, Red Hats, a longtime member of Alanon and St. Patrick's Church in Wellington. She is survived by her brother, Albert (Babe) Stiftar; sister-in-law, Donna Stifter; daughter, Pat (Ric) McCaslin; son, Tom (Kerry) McMahon; daughter-in-law, Mary Ann; grandsons, James (Laurie) McMahon, Michael (Katie) McMahon, Gus McMahon, John McMahon and Jake Baruth; great grandchildren, Allison, Olivia, Violet and Conor McMahon, Azayvion, Alijah and Mia Baruth. Mary loved her family and friends very much and will be missed immensely. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, John A. McMahon; sons, Tim A. McMahon, Terry S. McMahon; brothers, John, Adolf, Edward, William and Ernie Stiftar; sisters, Josephine Lenarsic, Jennie Lilies and Ann Zidonis. Family and friends will gather to celebrate her life on Friday August 10, 2018 from 6-8pm & Saturday August 11, 2018 10-11:30am at Norton Eastman Funeral Home, 370 S Main St, Wellington. A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, August 11, 2018 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 512 N Main Street, Wellington, with a luncheon to follow. A private family interment will be at Huntington Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, family suggests those who wish may make donations to Alanon or their favorite charity. Mary's family would like to thank Crossroads Hospice for their thoughtful care. Online condolences may be expressed at www.norton-eastmanfuneralhome.com
