Norwalk, Ohio - Mary Esther (Sherwood) Mockler, 87, passed away Thursday, October 18, 2018 in Fisher-Titus Medical Center, Norwalk, Ohio. She was born July 27, 1931, in Cadillac, Michigan, to the late Custer B. and Mildred E. (James) Sherwood, and was a graduate of Milan High School. Mary was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, and a former member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Milan, Ohio. She was a devoted homemaker and mother, and was co-owner, with her late husband, of the Ehrnsberger Restaurant in Sandusky, Ohio. Mary was a former member of the Altar and Rosary Society of St. Anthony Catholic Church. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading, was an avid Cleveland Indians, Cavalier's, and Notre Dame fan. She and her late husband Tom, who retired in 1988, enjoyed many years of traveling together, often wintering in Nevada, and she especially enjoyed spending time with her young grandchildren. Mary is survived by her children; Julie (Bruce) Kijowski of Norwalk, Ohio; Rebecca (Mark) Kopcienski of Avon, Ohio; Mary Beth (Mike) Giannetti of Pioneer, Tennessee; Kathleen (Rick) McKinney of Norwalk, Ohio; Elizabeth Smith (Mike Nickels) of Willard, Ohio; Thomas (Kelly) Mockler of Lospas, California; Jean (Robert) Vanderpool of Norwalk, Ohio; and Rachel ( David) Jenkins of Norwalk, Ohio. She is also survived by 32 grandchildren; Justin, Patrick, Jon, and Melissa Kijowski; Kimberly Burnard, Andrew, Julia, Christian, and Lauren Kopcienski; Adan and Miguel Ramos; Mary Esther, Elizabeth, John, and Noah McKinney; Rance, Molly, Jacy, Libby, Charlotte, and Ivy Smith; T.J., Timothy and Ted Mockler; Steven, Courtney, and Emily Mockler; Anna and Benjamin Vanderpool; Michael, Zachary, and Nate Jenkins; and by numerous great grandchildren. Mary is also survived by her siblings Donna Capizzi of Sandusky, Ohio; James (Elsie) Sherwood of Brighton, Michigan; Sandy (George) Peacock of Bellevue, Ohio; and by sister-in-law, Joyce Mockler, of Norwalk, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas J. Mockler in 2016, by her infant son, Michael, by her son in law William S. Smith, by her brother, Jack Sherwood, and by her sisters, Norma Boersma, Jean French, Nancy Swicker, and Helen Easler. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, October 22, 2018, in St. Paul Catholic Church, 91 E. Main St. Norwalk, Ohio 44857. Msgr Kenneth Morman will officiate.
