Obituary

Mary Louise Mohler, 82, of Pittsfield, died Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at EMH. Born on January 30, 1929 to the late Harold and Blanche (nee Whitney) Brandt, Mary Louise graduated from Wellington High School in 1947. She continued her education at Bowling Green and Ashland Universities. An extremely compassionate teacher, Mary Louise took great interest in her students. She taught for the Lorain County and Firelands School Districts before retiring from the Wellington School District after twenty years of service. She taught music education and later taught children with learning disabilities. She earned an accommodation Award for Excellence in Teaching from the Ohio House of Representatives and was honored by the Wellington Kiwanis Club for her commitment to education. Mary Louise was an extremely active member of the Pittsfield Community Church, where she played piano and organ and served as a Sunday School teacher. She also taught piano lessons from her home and played the violin. Her other hobbies included sewing, cooking and canning from her garden. Mary Louise was very family oriented and her extended 'family' came to include many friends, students and members of the community. Following retirement, Mary Louise performed as Flutterby the Clown, with the help of friends, at mother-daughter banquets and nursing homes. Survivors include Robert, her husband of 57 years whom she met at the Lorain County Fair; children, Michael Mohler, of Geneva, William (Annette) Mohler, of Pittsfield and Barb (Eric) Tallan, of Fairbanks, Alaska; grandchildren, Chris (Amanda) Mohler, Cassie (Matt) Bielawski, Hannah Tallan and Joe Tallan; and two great-grandchildren, Will Mohler and Courage Bielawski. She is also survived by her sister, Alice Kiplinger. In addition to her parents, Mary Louise was preceded in death by her brother, Paul Brandt and sister, Wilhelmina 'Billie' Brandt. Visitation will be Sunday, July 31, 2011 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the Pittsfield Community Church, 17026 State Route 58, where funeral services will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Kenneth Gerhardt officiating. Burial will follow at Pittsfield East Cemetery. Memorial donations can be directed to the Pittsfield Community Church Scholarship Fund.
