Feb 2, 1943 — Aug 21, 2026

Wellington

Mary Angela Moran Novotny, 83, of Wellington, died Friday, August 21, 2026, at the Cleveland Clinic, surrounded by family. Born on February 2, 1943, in Cleveland, she was the daughter of the late Edmund and Angela (nee Kearney) Moran. Mary grew up in Lakewood and was a 1961 graduate of St. Augustine Acadamy.

As a young woman, Mary worked at Elmwood Bakery, in Lakewood, which instilled in her a lifelong love of baking. After moving to Wellington, she was employed at Pipe Fittings and became the first woman manager of the shipping department. She then learned the trade of welding and worked at the Ford Motor Company. After retirement, Mary worked at the Village Market in the baking department. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Parish as well as the Wellington Eagles.

Baking was more than a career for Mary; she truly loved making things for others to enjoy. She also liked to read, especially spiritual books, and to go on lunch dates with friends. She loved animals but more than anything she loved her 5 cats. Mary was also a talented stencil painter, and many people in town have borders in their home she painted.

Survivors include her children, Russell (Shari) Novotny Jr., of Wellington, Donald J. (Toni) Novotny, of Wellington, Suzanne (Jim) Baker, of Wellington, Kevin Novotny, of Lakewood Ranch, FL, Mark (Linda) Novotny, of San Diego, CA, Andrew (Susanne) Novotny, of Perrysburg, and Sherri (Charles) Clark, of Wellington; 16 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; and a sister Patricia (Charles) Jackson. In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her brothers, Dan and Bryan Moran; a son, Michael Novotny; great-grandchildren, Charlie and Rose; and her former spouse, Russell Novotny, Sr.

Friends and family will be received on Tuesday, August 25 from 4-7 p.m. at the old St. Patrick Church, 512 North Main St, Wellington. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Wednesday in the main sanctuary, beginning at 10 a.m. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
